Israel, your famous hero lies dead on the hills, and your mighty warriors have fallen!

You, the bright morning star, have fallen from the sky! You brought down other nations; now you are brought down.

It will be like an olive tree beaten with a stick, leaving two or three olives or perhaps four or five on the highest or most fruitful branches. The LORD God of Israel has promised this.

Nations will be stripped bare, like olive trees or vineyards after the harvest season.

Warriors from the city of Teman will be terrified, and you descendants of Esau will be wiped out.

I feel so empty inside— like someone starving for grapes or figs, after the vines and trees have all been picked clean.

This is the glorious city that felt secure and said, “I am the only one!” Now it's merely ruins, a home for wild animals. Every passer-by simply sneers and makes vulgar signs.

And when you pick your grapes, go over the vines only once, then let the poor have what is left.

Her sufferings will frighten them, and they will stand at a distance and say, “Pity that great and powerful city! Pity Babylon! In a single hour her judgment has come.”
