The sacrifices were eaten by the Israelites who had returned and by the neighbouring people who had given up the sinful customs of other nations in order to worship the LORD God of Israel.

The LORD gave Moses and Aaron the following instructions for celebrating Passover: No one except Israelites may eat the Passover meal.

And all Israelites must take part in the meal.

Don't strip your grapevines clean or gather the grapes that fall off the vines. Leave them for the poor and for those foreigners who live among you. I am the LORD your God.

And don't bring me animals you bought from a foreigner. I won't accept them, because they are no better than one that has something wrong with it.

I am the LORD your God, and I demand equal justice both for you Israelites and for those foreigners who live among you.

This law will never change. I am the LORD, and I consider all people the same, whether they are Israelites or foreigners living among you.

Everyone must come—men, women, children, and even the foreigners who live in your towns. And each new generation will listen and learn to worship the LORD their God with fear and trembling and to do exactly what is said in God's Law.
