Nations will be your servants and bow down to you. You will rule over your brothers, and they will kneel at your feet. Anyone who curses you will be cursed; anyone who blesses you will be blessed.”

You will live by the power of your sword and be your brother's slave. But when you decide to be free, you will break loose.”

Jacob sent messengers on ahead to Esau, who lived in the land of Seir, also known as Edom.

David left soldiers all through Edom, and the people of Edom had to accept him as their ruler. Wherever David went, the LORD helped him.

Hadad was from the royal family of Edom, and here is how the LORD made him Solomon's enemy:

Some time earlier, when David conquered the nation of Edom, Joab his army commander went there to bury those who had died in battle. Joab and his soldiers stayed in Edom six months, and during that time they killed every man and boy who lived there.

You, God, are angry with us! We are rejected and crushed. Make us strong again!

After the sword of the LORD has done what it wants to the skies above, it will come down on Edom, the nation that the LORD has doomed for destruction.

Who is this coming from Bozrah in Edom with clothes stained red? Who is this hero marching in his glorious uniform? “It's me, the LORD! I have won the battle, and I can save you!”

In the future, I will rebuild David's fallen kingdom. I will build it from its ruins and set it up again, just as it used to be.

Then you will capture Edom and the other nations that are mine. I, the LORD, have spoken, and my words will come true.

The LORD said to Edom: I will make you the weakest and most despised nation.

But the Edomite king answered, “No, I won't let you go through our country! And if you try, we will attack you.”

The king of Israel will rule and destroy the survivors of every town there.
