You will live there as a foreigner, but I will be with you and bless you. I will keep my promise to your father Abraham by giving this land to you and your descendants.

Wherever you go, I will watch over you, then later I will bring you back to this land. I won't leave you—I will do all I have promised.

“I won't break my agreement or go back on my word.

I have sworn once and for all by my own holy name, and I won't lie to David.

Only a few of their warriors will be left with bows and arrows. This is a promise that I, the LORD God of Israel, have made.

The LORD isn't stupid! He does what he promises, and he can bring doom. If you are cruel yourself, or help those who are evil, you will be destroyed.

Flowers and grass fade away, but what our God has said will never change.

and brought someone from a distant land to do what I wanted. He attacked from the east, like a hawk swooping down. Now I will keep my promise and do what I planned.

That's how it is with my words. They don't return to me without doing everything I send them to do.”

About twelve months later, I was walking on the flat roof of my royal palace and admiring the beautiful city of Babylon, when these things started happening to me. I was saying to myself, “Just look at this wonderful capital city that I have built by my own power and for my own glory!”

Israel, I won't lose my temper and destroy you again. I am the Holy God— not merely a human being, and I won't stay angry.

You will keep your word and be faithful to Jacob and to Abraham, as you promised our ancestors many years ago.

At the time I have decided, my words will come true. You can trust what I say about the future. It may take a long time, but keep on waiting— it will happen!

Descendants of Jacob, I am the LORD All-Powerful, and I never change. That's why you haven't been wiped out,

You sinful people who ganged up against me will die here in the desert.

Balaam answered: “Pay close attention to my words—

The sky and the earth won't last for ever, but my words will.

God doesn't take back the gifts he has given or forget about the people he has chosen.

It cannot be said that God broke his promise. After all, not all the people of Israel are the true people of God.

If we are not faithful, he will still be faithful. Christ cannot deny who he is.”

Then they will have the hope of eternal life that God promised long ago. And God never tells a lie!

God cannot tell lies! And so his promises and vows are two things that can never be changed. We have run to God for safety. Now his promises should greatly encourage us to take hold of the hope that is right in front of us.

Every good and perfect gift comes down from the Father who created all the lights in the heavens. He is always the same and never makes dark shadows by changing.

Do you doubt the Scriptures that say, “God truly cares about the Spirit he has put in us”?

The LORD promised to do many good things for Israel, and he kept his promise every time.

Besides, the eternal God of Israel isn't a human being. He doesn't tell lies or change his mind.”

I will punish Eli and his family, just as I promised.
