Our stubborn ancestors refused to obey— they forgot about the miracles you had worked for them, and they were determined to return to Egypt and become slaves again. But, our God, you are merciful and quick to forgive; you are loving, kind, and very patient. So you never turned away from them—

But the Israelites would not listen; they were as stubborn as their ancestors who had refused to worship the LORD their God.

Some of our ancestors were unfaithful and disobeyed the LORD our God. Not only did they turn their backs on the LORD, but they also completely ignored his temple.

Don't be stubborn like your ancestors. Decide now to obey the LORD our God! Come to Jerusalem and worship him in the temple that will belong to him for ever. Then he will stop being angry,

King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylonia had forced Zedekiah to promise in God's name that he would be loyal. Zedekiah was stubborn and refused to turn back to the LORD God of Israel, so he rebelled against Nebuchadnezzar.

You knew that the King of Egypt and his officials and his nation had ill-treated your people. So you worked fearsome miracles against the Egyptians and earned a reputation that still remains.

You warned them to turn back and discover true life by obeying your laws. But they stubbornly refused and continued to sin.

We and our ancestors have sinned terribly.

“Listen, my people, while I, the Lord, correct you! Israel, if you would only pay attention to me!

Then he said, “I am the LORD your God, and I cure your diseases. If you obey me by doing right and by following my laws and teachings, I won't punish you with the diseases I sent on the Egyptians.”

Moses, I have seen how stubborn these people are,

If you keep being stubborn after many warnings, you will suddenly discover you have gone too far.

How I wish that you had obeyed my commands! Your success and good fortune would then have overflowed like a flooding river.

I knew you were stubborn and hard-headed.

Then the LORD's people turned against him and made his Holy Spirit sad. So he became their enemy and attacked them.

“Listen, everyone! Some time ago, the LORD All-Powerful, the God of Israel, warned you that he would bring disaster on Jerusalem and all nearby villages. But you were stubborn and refused to listen. Now the LORD is going to bring the disaster he promised.”

Now listen to what I say! Did I abandon you in the desert or surround you with darkness? You are my people, yet you have told me, “We'll do what we want, and we refuse to worship you!”

But you have ignored me and become even more stubborn and sinful than your ancestors ever were!

But the people of Jerusalem rebelled and refuse to obey me. They ignored my laws and have become even more sinful than the nations around them.

You stubborn and hard-headed people! You are always fighting against the Holy Spirit, just as your ancestors did.

But you are stubborn and refuse to turn to God. So you are making things even worse for yourselves on that day when he will show how angry he is and will judge the world with fairness.

I know how stubborn and rebellious you and the rest of the Israelites are. You have rebelled against the LORD while I have been alive, and it will only get worse after I am gone.

Israel, you grew fat and rebelled against God, your Creator; you rejected the Mighty Rock, your only place of safety.

I wish they would always worship me with fear and trembling and be this willing to obey me! Then they and their children would always enjoy a successful life.

I've been watching the Israelites, and I've seen how stubborn and rebellious they are.

Israel's ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob obeyed you faithfully. Think about them, and not about Israel's stubbornness, evil, and sin.

You must encourage one another each day. And you must keep on while there is still a time that can be called “today”. If you don't, then sin may fool some of you and make you stubborn.

The Scriptures say, “If you hear his voice today, don't be stubborn like those who rebelled.”
