When our enemies in the surrounding nations learnt that the work was finished, they felt helpless, because they knew that our God had helped us rebuild the wall.

The Amorite kings west of the River Jordan and the Canaanite kings along the Mediterranean Sea lost their courage and their will to fight, when they heard how the LORD had dried up the River Jordan to let Israel go across.

We celebrated with laughter and joyful songs. In foreign nations it was said, “The LORD has worked miracles for his people.”

But Sanballat, Tobiah, the Arabs, the Ammonites, and the people from the city of Ashdod saw the walls going up and the holes being repaired. So they became angry

When Sanballat, the governor of Samaria, heard that we were rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem, he became angry and started insulting our people.

But when Sanballat from Horon and Tobiah the Ammonite official heard about what had happened, they became very angry, because they didn't want anyone to help the people of Israel.

So I advise you to stay away from these men. Leave them alone. If what they are planning is something of their own doing, it will fail.

No magic charms can work against them— just look what God has done for his people.

Their chariot wheels got stuck, and it was hard for them to move. So the Egyptians said to one another, “Let's leave these people alone! The LORD is on their side and is fighting against us.”

All this time the Jewish leaders and Tobiah had been writing letters back and forth.

When that happens, all nations on earth will see the good things I have done for Jerusalem, and how I have given it complete peace. The nations will celebrate and praise and honour me, but they will also tremble with fear.

I know that the LORD has given Israel this land. Everyone shakes with fear because of you.

We know that the LORD your God rules heaven and earth, and we've lost our courage and our will to fight.

Let others know that you alone have saved me.

I pray that all who hate the city of Zion will be made ashamed and forced to turn and run.

The LORD rebuilds Jerusalem and brings the people of Israel back home again.
