Nineveh, now it's your turn! You will get drunk and try to hide from your enemy.

You hold in your hand a cup filled with wine, strong and foaming. You will pour out some for every sinful person on this earth, and they will have to drink until it is gone.

Every one of you, hide among the rocks and in the ground, because the LORD is fearsome, marvellous, and glorious.

You had better hide in caves and holes— the LORD will be fearsome, marvellous, and glorious when he comes to terrify people on earth.

Be shocked and stunned, you prophets! Refuse to see. Get drunk and stagger, but not from wine.

He will make those cruel people dine on their own flesh and get drunk from drinking their own blood. Then everyone will know that the LORD is our Saviour; the powerful God of Israel has rescued his people.

If they escape to the peaks of Mount Carmel, I'll search and find them. And if they hide from me at the bottom of the ocean, I'll command a sea monster to bite them.

because of their fear of me, your LORD and God. Then they will come trembling, crawling out of their fortresses like insects or snakes, lapping up the dust.

They are like drunkards overcome by wine, or like dry thorn bushes burning in a fire.

Nineveh, someone is coming to attack and scatter you. Guard your fortresses! Watch the road! Be brave! Prepare for battle!

At that time everyone will say to the mountains, “Fall on us!” They will say to the hills, “Hide us!”

The Israelite army realized that they were outnumbered and were going to lose the battle. Some of the Israelite men hid in caves or in clumps of bushes, and some ran to places where they could hide among large rocks. Others hid in tombs or in deep dry pits.

Jonathan and the soldier stood at the bottom of the hill where the Philistines could see them. The Philistines said, “Look! Those worthless Israelites have crawled out of the holes where they've been hiding.” Then they yelled down to Jonathan and the soldier, “Come up here, and we will teach you a thing or two!” Jonathan turned to the soldier and said, “Follow me! The LORD is going to let us win.”
