Later the LORD spoke to Abram in a vision, “Abram, don't be afraid! I will protect you and reward you greatly.”

I even hid a hundred of the LORD's prophets in caves when Jezebel was trying to kill them. I also gave them food and water.

She sent a message to Elijah: “You killed my prophets. Now I'm going to kill you! I pray that the gods will punish me even more severely if I don't do it by this time tomorrow.”

So at once he sent an army officer and fifty soldiers to meet Elijah. Elijah was sitting on top of a hill at the time. The officer went up to him and said, “Man of God, the king orders you to come down and talk with him.”

When Asa heard this, he was so angry that he put Hanani in prison. Asa was also cruel to some of his people.

But the people only laughed and insulted these prophets. They ignored what the LORD God was trying to tell them, until he finally became so angry that nothing could stop him from punishing Judah and Jerusalem.

In spite of this, they rebelled and disobeyed your laws. They killed your prophets, who warned them to turn back to you, and they cursed your name.

By your teachings, Lord, I am warned; by obeying them, I am greatly rewarded.

Everyone will say, “It's true! Good people are rewarded. God does rule the earth with justice.”

Meanness gets you nowhere, but goodness is rewarded.

Tell those who obey God, “You're very fortunate— you will be rewarded for what you have done.”

I tried punishing you, but you refused to come back to me, and like fierce lions you killed my prophets.

and as soon as I finished, they all crowded around me and started shouting, “Why did you preach that the LORD will destroy this temple, just as he destroyed Shiloh? Why did you say that Jerusalem will be empty and lie in ruins? You ought to be put to death for saying such things in the LORD's name!” Then they had me arrested.

“I'm not trying to join them!” I answered. But Irijah wouldn't listen, and he took me to the king's officials.

The Son of Man will soon come in the glory of his Father and with his angels to reward all people for what they have done.

When you go without eating, don't try to look gloomy as those show-offs do when they go without eating. I can assure you that they already have their reward.

Jerusalem, Jerusalem! Your people have killed the prophets and have stoned the messengers who were sent to you. I have often wanted to gather your people, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings. But you wouldn't let me.

Long ago your own people did these same things to the prophets. So when this happens to you, be happy and jump for joy! You will have a great reward in heaven.

But love your enemies and be good to them. Lend without expecting to be paid back. Then you will get a great reward, and you will be the true children of God in heaven. He is good even to people who are unthankful and cruel.

About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing praises to God, while the other prisoners listened.

The apostles left the council and were happy, because God had considered them worthy to suffer for the sake of Jesus.

But that's not all! We gladly suffer, because we know that suffering helps us to endure.

The one who plants is just as important as the one who waters. And each one will be paid for what they do.

In fact, the Lord Christ is the one you are really serving, and you know that he will reward you.

Those Jews killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and they even chased us away. God doesn't like what they do and neither does anyone else.

You were kind to people in jail. And you gladly let your possessions be taken away, because you knew you had something better, something that would last for ever.

Moses knew that the treasures of Egypt were not as wonderful as what he would receive from suffering for the Messiah, and he looked forward to his reward.

Their faith helped them conquer kingdoms, and because they did right, God made promises to them. They closed the jaws of lions

But without faith no one can please God. We must believe that God is real and that he rewards everyone who searches for him.

My friends, be glad, even if you have a lot of trouble.

My friends, follow the example of the prophets who spoke for the Lord. They were patient, even when they had to suffer.

Be glad for the chance to suffer as Christ suffered. It will prepare you for even greater happiness when he makes his glorious return.

I pray that the LORD God of Israel will reward you for what you have done. And now that you have come to him for protection, I pray that he will bless you.”
