Matthew 3:11

I baptize you with water so that you will give up your sins. But someone more powerful is going to come, and I am not good enough even to carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

They told how sorry they were for their sins, and he baptized them in the river.

He will go ahead of the Lord with the same power and spirit that Elijah had. And because of John, parents will be more thoughtful of their children. And people who now disobey God will begin to think as they ought to. That is how John will get people ready for the Lord.

John said, “I am just baptizing with water. But someone more powerful is going to come, and I am not good enough even to untie his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

So John went along the Jordan Valley, telling the people, “Turn back to God and be baptized! Then your sins will be forgiven.”

John spoke about him and shouted, “This is the one I told you would come! He is greater than I am, because he was alive before I was born.”

He is the one I told you about when I said, “Someone else will come. He is greater than I am, because he was alive before I was born.”

John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.

Paul replied, “John baptized people so that they would turn to God. But he also told them that someone else was coming, and that they should put their faith in him. Jesus is the one that John was talking about.”

As they were going along the road, they came to a place where there was some water. The official said, “Look! Here is some water. Why can't I be baptized?”

He ordered the chariot to stop. Then they both went down into the water, and Philip baptized him.

Some of us are Jews, and others are Gentiles. Some of us are slaves, and others are free. But God's Spirit baptized each of us and made us part of the body of Christ. Now we each drink from that same Spirit.

I am the least important of all God's people. But God was kind and chose me to tell the Gentiles that because of Christ there are blessings that cannot be measured.

He saved us because of his mercy, and not because of any good things that we have done. God washed us by the power of the Holy Spirit. He gave us new birth and a fresh beginning.

All you young people should obey your elders. In fact, everyone should be humble towards everyone else. The Scriptures say, “God opposes proud people, but he helps everyone who is humble.”
