Others said, “Wait! Let's see if Elijah will come and save him.”
Elijah was a prophet from Tishbe in Gilead. One day he went to King Ahab and said, “I'm a servant of the living LORD, the God of Israel. And I swear in his name that it won't rain until I say so. There won't even be any dew on the ground.”
They say, “Now we'll catch you! God has deserted you, and no one can save you.”
One of them at once ran and grabbed a sponge. He soaked it in wine, then put it on a stick and held it up to Jesus.
Once again Jesus shouted, and then he died.
