After everyone was there, David stood up and said: Listen to me, my people. I wanted to build a place where the sacred chest would be kept, so we could go there and worship the LORD our God. I have prepared all the supplies for building a temple,

but none of what is earned will be kept in the city. That money will belong to the LORD, and it will be used to buy more than enough food and good clothes for those who worship the LORD.

The kings and queens of those nations where they were raised will come and bow down. They will take care of you just like a slave taking care of a child. Then you will know that I am the LORD. You won't be disappointed if you trust me.”

As he was doing this, one official was brought in who owed him fifty million silver coins.

The servant who had two thousand coins did the same with his money and earned two thousand more.

But before leaving, he called in ten servants and gave each of them some money. He told them, “Use this to earn more money until I get back.”

When David was alive, he obeyed God. Then after he died, he was buried in the family grave, and his body decayed.

But God was kind! He made me what I am, and his wonderful kindness wasn't wasted. I worked much harder than any of the other apostles, although it was really God's kindness at work and not me.

And farmers who work hard are the first to eat what grows in their field.
