You will be arrested, punished, and even killed. Because of me, you will be hated by people of all nations.

Good people and criminals can't stand each other.

Wise leaders will instruct many of the people. But for a while, some of these leaders will either be killed with swords or burnt alive, or else robbed of their possessions and thrown into prison.

Others grabbed the servants, then beat them up and killed them.

I will send prophets and wise people and experts in the Law of Moses to you. But you will kill them or nail them to a cross or beat them in your meeting places or chase them from town to town.

Because of your evil deeds, the Wisdom of God said, “I will send prophets and apostles to you. But you will murder some and ill-treat others.”

Before all this happens, you will be arrested and punished. You will be tried in your meeting places and put in jail. Because of me you will be placed on trial before kings and governors.

If the people of this world hate you, just remember that they hated me first.

People will do to you exactly what they did to me. They will do it because you belong to me, and they don't know the one who sent me.

You will be chased out of the Jewish meeting places. And the time will come when people will kill you and think they are doing God a favour.

But we would like to hear what you have to say. We understand that people everywhere are against this new group.”

As Stephen was being stoned to death, he called out, “Lord Jesus, please welcome me!”

Don't be ashamed to suffer for being a Christian. Praise God that you belong to him.

Don't worry about what you will suffer. The devil will throw some of you into jail, and you will be tested and made to suffer for ten days. But if you are faithful until you die, I will reward you with a glorious life.

I know that you live where Satan has his throne. But you have kept true to my name. There where Satan lives, my faithful witness Antipas was taken from you and put to death. Even then you did not give up your faith in me.

“Sir,” I answered, “you must know.” Then he told me: “These are the ones who have gone through the great suffering. They have washed their robes in the blood of the Lamb and have made them white.
