Who gave John the right to baptize? Was it God in heaven or merely some human being?” They thought it over and said to each other, “We can't say that God gave John this right. Jesus will ask us why we didn't believe John.

The disciples talked this over and said to each other, “He must be saying this because we didn't bring along any bread.”

Jesus answered, “I have just one question to ask you. If you answer it, I will tell you where I got the right to do these things.

On the other hand, these people think that John was a prophet, and we are afraid of what they might do to us. That's why we can't say that it was merely some human who gave John the right to baptize.”

But they did not say a word. Jesus took hold of the man. Then he healed him and sent him away.

They talked this over and said to each other, “We can't say that God gave John this right. Jesus will ask us why we didn't believe John.

John spoke about him and shouted, “This is the one I told you would come! He is greater than I am, because he was alive before I was born.”

God sent a man named John,

No one who has faith in God's Son will be condemned. But everyone who doesn't have faith in him has already been condemned for not having faith in God's only Son.

But even if we don't feel at ease, God is greater than our feelings, and he knows everything.
