So the people were very unhappy because of what he was doing. But Jesus said, “Prophets are honoured by everyone, except the people of their home town and their own family.”

Israel, I am the holy LORD God, the one who rescues you. You are slaves of rulers and of a nation who despises you. Now this is what I promise: kings and rulers will honour you by kneeling at your feet. You can trust me! I am your LORD, the holy God of Israel, and you are my chosen ones.

He was hated and rejected; his life was filled with sorrow and terrible suffering. No one wanted to look at him. We despised him and said, “He is a nobody!”

Run to me for protection. I am a rock that will make both Judah and Israel stumble and break their bones. I am a trap that will catch the people of Jerusalem—they will be captured and dragged away.

God will bless everyone who doesn't reject me because of what I do.”

And because the people did not have any faith, Jesus did not perform many miracles there.

Jesus left and returned to his home town with his disciples.

Jesus became so well known that Herod the ruler heard about him. Some people thought he was John the Baptist, who had come back to life with the power to perform miracles.

Isn't he the carpenter, the son of Mary? Aren't James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon his brothers? Don't his sisters still live here in our town?” The people were very unhappy because of what he was doing.

But Jesus said, “Prophets are honoured by everyone, except the people of their home town and their relatives and their own family.”

But you can be sure that no prophets are liked by the people of their own home town.

God will bless everyone who doesn't reject me because of what I do.”

They were asking each other, “Isn't he Jesus, the son of Joseph? Don't we know his father and mother? How can he say that he has come down from heaven?”

Jesus knew that his disciples were grumbling. So he asked, “Does this bother you?
