As John's followers were going away, Jesus spoke to the crowds about John: What sort of person did you go out into the desert to see? Was he like tall grass blown about by the wind?

Uncontrollable as a flood, you slept with my wife and disgraced my bed. And so you no longer deserve the place of honour.

What kind of man did you go out to see? Was he someone dressed in fine clothes? People who dress like that live in the king's palace.

He won't break off a bent reed or put out a dying flame, but he will make sure that justice is done.

Who gave John the right to baptize? Was it God in heaven or merely some human being?” They thought it over and said to each other, “We can't say that God gave John this right. Jesus will ask us why we didn't believe John.

John was a lamp that gave a lot of light, and you were glad to enjoy his light for a while.

We must stop acting like children. We must not let deceitful people trick us by their false teachings, which are like winds that toss us around from place to place.

But when you ask for something, you must have faith and not doubt. Anyone who doubts is like an ocean wave tossed around in a storm.
