Do something, God! Defend yourself. Remember how those fools sneer at you all day long.

Israel, I am the holy LORD God, the one who rescues you. You are slaves of rulers and of a nation who despises you. Now this is what I promise: kings and rulers will honour you by kneeling at your feet. You can trust me! I am your LORD, the holy God of Israel, and you are my chosen ones.

I let them beat my back and pull out my beard. I didn't turn aside when they insulted me and spat in my face.

We are now on our way to Jerusalem where the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the teachers of the Law of Moses. They will sentence him to death and hand him over to foreigners,

I can assure you that Elijah has already come. And people treated him just as they wanted to, as the Scriptures say they would.

You, my son, will be called a prophet of God in heaven above. You will go ahead of the Lord to get everything ready for him.

Herod and his soldiers made fun of Jesus and insulted him. They put a fine robe on him and sent him back to Pilate.

One of the criminals hanging there also insulted Jesus by saying, “Aren't you the Messiah? Save yourself and save us!”

While the apostles were still with Jesus, they asked him, “Lord, are you now going to give Israel its own king again?”

He is the stone that you builders thought was worthless, and now he is the most important stone of all.
