Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “It's hard for rich people to get into God's kingdom!”

I have never trusted the power of wealth,

Then he said: I promise you this. If you don't change and become like a child, you will never get into the kingdom of heaven.

I promise you that you cannot get into God's kingdom, unless you accept it the way a child does.”

When the man heard Jesus say this, he went away gloomy and sad because he was very rich.

Jesus was angry as he looked around at the people. Yet he felt sorry for them because they were so stubborn. Then he told the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He did, and his bad hand was healed.

But Jesus turned to see who had touched him.

Jesus saw how sad the man was. So he said, “It's terribly hard for rich people to get into God's kingdom!

Jesus answered: I tell you for certain that before you can get into God's kingdom, you must be born not only by water, but by the Spirit.

My dear friends, remember what you were when God chose you. The people of this world didn't think that many of you were wise. Only a few of you were in places of power, and not many of you came from important families.

My dear friends, pay attention. God has given a lot of faith to the poor people in this world. He has also promised them a share in his kingdom that he will give to everyone who loves him.

You people aren't faithful to God! Don't you know that if you love the world, you are God's enemies? And if you decide to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God.

Then our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ will give you a glorious welcome into his kingdom that will last for ever.
