Jerusalem, wake up! Stand up! You've drunk too much from the cup filled with the LORD's anger. You have swallowed every drop, and you can't walk straight.

Jesus walked on a little way. Then he knelt with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, don't make me suffer by making me drink from this cup. But do what you want, and not what I want.”

Again Jesus went to pray and said, “My Father, if there is no other way, and I must suffer, I will still do what you want.”

He left them and prayed the same prayer once more.

Come and set up your kingdom, so that everyone on earth will obey you, as you are obeyed in heaven.

Jesus said, “Father, forgive these people! They don't know what they're doing.” While the crowd stood there watching Jesus, the soldiers gambled for his clothes. The leaders insulted him by saying, “He saved others. Now he should save himself, if he really is God's chosen Messiah!”

Jesus told Peter, “Put your sword away. I must drink from the cup that the Father has given me.”

Jesus said: My food is to do what God wants! He is the one who sent me, and I must finish the work that he gave me to do.

I cannot do anything on my own. The Father sent me, and he is the one who told me how to judge. I judge with fairness, because I obey him, and I don't just try to please myself.

I didn't come from heaven to do what I want! I came to do what the Father wants me to do. He sent me,

Since we could not get Paul to change his mind, we gave up and prayed, “Lord, please make us willing to do what you want.”
