When the tenants saw the owner's son, they said to one another, “Some day he will own the vineyard. Let's kill him! Then we can have it all for ourselves.”

“I have chosen David as my firstborn son, and he will be the ruler of all kings on earth.

Each day, Jesus kept on teaching in the temple. So the chief priests, the teachers of the Law of Moses, and some other important people tried to have him killed.

The owner then said to himself, “What am I going to do? I know what. I'll send my son, the one I love so much. They will surely respect him!”

So they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. Jesus asked, “What do you think the owner of the vineyard will do?

The chief priests and the teachers of the Law of Moses knew that Jesus was talking about them when he was telling this story. They wanted to arrest him at once, but they were afraid of the people.

They talked this over and said to each other, “We can't say that God gave John this right. Jesus will ask us why we didn't believe John.

The chief priests and the teachers of the Law of Moses were looking for a way to get rid of Jesus, because they were afraid of what the people might do.

God had already planned and decided that Jesus would be handed over to you. So you took him and had evil men put him to death on a cross.

and you killed the one who leads people to life. But God raised him from death, and all of us can tell you what he has done.

His Spirit lets us know that together with Christ we will be given what God has promised. We will also share in the glory of Christ, because we have suffered with him.

But now at last, God sent his Son to bring his message to us. God created the universe by his Son, and everything will some day belong to the Son.
