But still, he punishes rulers who abuse their people.

Dishonest people use gossip to destroy their neighbours; good people are protected by their own good sense.

All who are cruel and arrogant will be gone for ever. Those who live by crime will disappear,

Stay away from those Pharisees! They are like blind people leading other blind people, and all of them will fall into a ditch.”

And you are nothing but show-offs! Isaiah the prophet was right when he wrote that God had said,

You Pharisees and teachers of the Law of Moses are in for trouble! You're nothing but show-offs. You lock people out of the kingdom of heaven. You won't go in yourselves, and you keep others from going in.

That's what you are like. Outside you look good, but inside you are evil and only pretend to be good.

You're nothing but show-offs! First, take the log out of your own eye. Then you can see how to take the speck out of your friend's eye.

As thousands of people crowded around Jesus and were stepping on each other, he told his disciples: Be sure to guard against the dishonest teaching of the Pharisees! It is their way of fooling people.

Afterwards, Jesus asked the people, “If your son or ox falls into a well, wouldn't you pull him out straight away, even on the Sabbath?”

How can you say, “My friend, let me take the speck out of your eye,” when you don't see the log in your own eye? You show-offs! First, get the log out of your own eye. Then you can see how to take the speck out of your friend's eye.

When the Lord saw the woman, he felt sorry for her and said, “Don't cry!”
