Then Moses told Aaron that this was exactly what the LORD had meant when he said: “I demand respect from my priests, and I will be praised by everyone!” Aaron was speechless.

I will make the king stubborn again, and he will try to catch you. Then I will destroy him and his army. People everywhere will praise me for my victory, and the Egyptians will know that I really am the LORD. The Israelites obeyed the LORD and camped where he told them.

Only the priests may come near me, and they must obey strict rules before I let them. If they don't, they will be punished.”

Then the LORD told Moses, “Go down and bring Aaron back here with you. But the priests and people must not try to push their way through, or I will rush at them like a flood!”

When you ordain Aaron and his sons as my priests, sprinkle them with some of this oil,

Hezekiah thought, “At least our nation will be at peace for a while.” So he told me, “The message you brought from the LORD is good.”

The LORD said to me, “Israel, you are my servant; and because of you I will be highly honoured.”

Leave the city of Babylon! Don't touch anything filthy. Wash yourselves. Be ready to carry back everything sacred that belongs to the LORD.

When I bring you home from the places where you are now scattered, I will be pleased with you, just as I am pleased with the smell of the smoke from your sacrifices. Every nation on earth will see that I am holy,

and tell its people: I, the LORD God, am your enemy! People will praise me when I punish you, and they will see that I am holy.

You will attack my people like a storm cloud that covers their land. I will let you invade my country Israel, so that every nation on earth will know that I, the LORD, am holy.

and the building beside the south gate belongs to those who serve at the altar. All of them are descendants of Zadok and are the only Levites allowed to serve as the LORD's priests.”

The man then said to me: These rooms on the north and south sides of the temple are the sacred rooms where the LORD's priests will eat the most holy offerings. These offerings include the grain sacrifices, the sacrifices for sin, and the sacrifices to make things right.

In this way, your descendants will be qualified to serve me. Remember—I am the LORD, and I have chosen you.

to say to Aaron: No descendant of yours can ever serve as my priest if he is blind or lame, if his face is disfigured, if one leg is shorter than the other,

These men may not serve as my priests and burn sacrifices to me.

I am the LORD your God, and I have chosen you alone to offer sacrifices of food to me on the altar. That's why you must keep yourselves holy.

because I am holy. And so, you must be treated with proper respect, since you offer food sacrifices to me, the God of holiness.

Obey me, or you will die on duty for disgracing the place of worship. Remember—I am the LORD, the one who makes a priest holy.

The LORD has told me that you must stay near the entrance to the tent for seven days and nights, or else you will die.

Then he said to Korah and his followers: Tomorrow morning the LORD will show us the person he has chosen to be his priest, and that man will faithfully serve him.

But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you refused to believe in my power, these people did not respect me. And so, you will not be the ones to lead them into the land I have promised.”

If you love your father or mother or even your sons and daughters more than me, you are not fit to be my disciples.

So Father, bring glory to yourself. A voice from heaven then said, “I have already brought glory to myself, and I will do it again!”

Ask me, and I will do whatever you ask. This way the Son will bring honour to the Father.

Both of you were unfaithful to me at Meribah Spring near Kadesh in the Zin Desert. I am God, but there in front of the Israelites, you did not treat me with the honour and respect I deserve.

This will happen on that day when the Lord returns to be praised and honoured by all who have faith in him and belong to him. This includes you, because you believed what we said.

God has already begun judging his own people. And if his judgment begins with us, imagine how terrible it will be for those who refuse to obey his message. The Scriptures say,

I am the LORD, the God of Israel. I promised to let your family serve me as priests for ever, but now I tell you that I cannot do this any longer! I honour anyone who honours me, but I put a curse on anyone who hates me.

Samuel told Eli everything. Then Eli said, “He is the LORD, and he will do what's right.”

and they started saying, “No other God is like the LORD! Who can go near him and still live? We'll have to send the chest away from here. But where can we send it?”
