Don't have anything to do with the nations that live around you. Don't worship their gods or pray to their idols or make promises in the names of their gods.

Even though the LORD had commanded the Israelites not to worship idols, they did it anyway.

But I pray that the LORD will forgive me when I go into the temple of the god Rimmon and bow down there with the king of Syria.”

But if you or any of the people of Israel disobey my laws or start worshipping foreign gods,

but worshippers of other gods will have much sorrow. I refuse to offer sacrifices of blood to those gods or worship in their name.

Don't bow down and worship idols. I am the LORD your God, and I demand all your love. If you reject me, I will punish your families for three or four generations.

Make certain that you obey everything I have said. Don't pray to other gods or even mention their names.

People of Judah, how can I forgive you? I gave you everything, but you abandoned me and worshipped idols. You men go to prostitutes and are unfaithful to your wives.

I will no longer even let you mention the names of those pagan gods that you called “Master”.

Not a trace will be found of those who worship stars from their rooftops, or bow down to the god Milcom, while claiming loyalty to me, the LORD.

Sibmah, as well as the towns that used to be known as Nebo and Baal-Meon. They renamed all those places.

If you don't force out all the people there, they will be like pointed sticks in your eyes and thorns in your back. They will always be trouble for you,

Don't fool yourselves. Bad friends will destroy you.

Don't take part in doing those worthless things that are done in the dark. Instead, show how wrong they are.

Respect the LORD your God, serve only him, and make promises in his name alone.

Worship and obey the LORD your God with fear and trembling, and promise that you will be loyal to him.

Don't have anything to do with gods that are worshipped by the nations around you.

Don't ever turn your backs on him by marrying people from the nations that are left in the land. Don't even make friends with them. I tell you that if you are friendly with those nations, the LORD won't chase them away when you attack. Instead, they'll be like a trap for your feet, a whip on your back, and thorns in your eyes. And finally, none of you will be left in this good land that the LORD has given you.

Be as faithful to the LORD as you have always been.
