Jesus then told them, “I tell you for certain that Moses wasn't the one who gave you bread from heaven. My Father is the one who gives you the true bread from heaven.

But God gave a command to the clouds, and he opened the doors in the skies.

The LORD said to Moses, “I will send bread down from heaven like rain. Each day the people can go out and gather only enough for that day. That's how I will see if they obey me.

Then Moses continued, “You will know it is the LORD when he gives you meat each evening and more than enough bread each morning. He is really the one you are complaining about, not us—we are nobodies—but the LORD has heard your complaints.”

The true light that shines on everyone was coming into the world.

Jesus said to his disciples: I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.

For example, when our ancestors were in the desert, they were given manna to eat. It happened just as the Scriptures say, ‘God gave them bread from heaven to eat.’ ”

And the bread that God gives is the one who came down from heaven to give life to the world.”

Jesus replied: I am the bread that gives life! No one who comes to me will ever be hungry. No one who has faith in me will ever be thirsty.

The people started grumbling because Jesus had said he was the bread that had come down from heaven.

But the bread from heaven has come down, so that no one who eats it will ever die.

My flesh is the true food, and my blood is the true drink.

The bread that comes down from heaven isn't like what your ancestors ate. They died, but whoever eats this bread will live for ever.

But when the time was right, God sent his Son, and a woman gave birth to him. His Son obeyed the Law,

We know that Jesus Christ the Son of God has come and has shown us the true God. And because of Jesus, we now belong to the true God who gives eternal life.
