The people picked up stones to kill Jesus, but he hid and left the temple.

Now the leaders wanted to kill Jesus for two reasons. First, he had broken the law of the Sabbath. But even worse, he had said that God was his Father, which made him equal with God.

“Teacher,” they said, “the people there want to stone you to death! Why do you want to go back?”

David was desperate. His soldiers were so upset over what had happened to their sons and daughters that they were thinking about stoning David to death. But he felt the LORD God giving him strength,

Then Moses prayed to the LORD, “What am I going to do with these people? They are about to stone me to death!”

Is there one prophet that your ancestors didn't ill-treat? They killed the prophets who told about the coming of the One Who Obeys God. And now you have turned against him and killed him.

That's why you will be held guilty for the murder of every good person, beginning with the good man Abel. This also includes Barachiah's son Zechariah, the man you murdered between the temple and the altar.

But the tenants grabbed those servants. They beat up one, killed one, and stoned one of them to death.

The Pharisees left and started making plans to kill Jesus.

The Jewish leaders in Jerusalem sent priests and temple helpers to ask John who he was. He told them plainly, “I am not the Messiah.”

and the people gathered all around him. They said, “How long are you going to keep us guessing? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly!”

But he said, “I have shown you many good things that my Father sent me to do. Which one are you going to stone me for?”
