This happened before the LORD had destroyed the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. And when Lot looked around, he saw there was plenty of water in the Jordan Valley. All the way to Zoar the valley was as green as the garden of the LORD or the land of Egypt.

The LORD All-Powerful was angry and used the people as fuel for a fire that scorched the land. They turned against each other

This nation will eat your crops and livestock; they will leave no fruit on your vines or trees. And although you feel safe behind thick walls, your towns will be destroyed and your children killed.

Instead, they will say that it looks as beautiful as the garden of Eden. They won't see towns lying in ruins, but they will see your strong cities filled with people.

The LORD showed me that he is going to send a ball of fire to burn up everything on earth, including the sea.

I am sending the Babylonians. They are fierce and cruel— marching across the land, conquering cities and towns.

That's why I came with a whirlwind and scattered them among foreign nations, leaving their lovely country empty of people and in ruins.
