Then the LORD asked, “What do you think of my servant Job? No one on earth is like him—he is a truly good person, who respects me and refuses to do evil. And he hasn't changed, even though you persuaded me to destroy him for no reason.”

and this is the story about him. Noah was the only person who lived right and obeyed God.

Joab answered, “No, no! I'm not trying to wipe you out or destroy your town!

Many years ago, a man named Job lived in the land of Uz. He was a truly good person, who respected God and refused to do evil.

Try taking away everything he owns, and he will curse you to your face.”

One day, when the angels had gathered around the LORD, and Satan was there with them,

Then the LORD asked, “What do you think of my servant Job? No one on earth is like him—he is a truly good person, who respects me and refuses to do evil.”

God may kill me, but still I will trust him and offer my defence.

and the LORD asked, “Satan, where have you been?” Satan replied, “I have been going all over the earth.”

Satan answered, “There's no pain like your own. People will do anything to stay alive.

He would strike me with a storm and increase my injuries for no reason at all.

Even if I were innocent, God would prove me wrong.

Show that I am right, LORD! I stay true to myself, and I have trusted you without doubting.

Think of the bright future waiting for all the families of honest and innocent and peace-loving people.

You have helped me because I am innocent, and you will always be close to my side.

Trouble goes right past the LORD's people and strikes the wicked.

Live right, and you are safe! But sin will destroy you.

By living right, you show that you respect the LORD; by being deceitful, you show that you despise him.

The LORD is disgusted by gifts from the wicked, but it makes him happy when his people pray.

God's people avoid evil ways, and they protect themselves by watching where they go.

“No, it wasn't!” Jesus answered. “But because of his blindness, you will see God perform a miracle for him.

I have not yet reached my goal, and I am not perfect. But Christ has taken hold of me. So I keep on running and struggling to take hold of the prize.

God will bless you, if you don't give up when your faith is being tested. He will reward you with a glorious life, just as he rewards everyone who loves him.

Your faith will be like gold that has been tested in a fire. And these trials will prove that your faith is worth much more than gold that can be destroyed. They will show that you will be given praise and honour and glory when Jesus Christ returns.

But God shows undeserved kindness to everyone. That's why he appointed Christ Jesus to choose you to share in his eternal glory. You will suffer for a while, but God will make you complete, steady, strong, and firm.
