Jeremiah 8:19

In a foreign land my people are crying. Listen! You'll hear them say, “Has the LORD deserted Zion? Is he no longer its king?” I hear the LORD reply, “Why did you make me angry by worshipping useless idols?”

Praise the LORD from Zion! He lives here in Jerusalem. Shout praises to the LORD!

Beside the rivers of Babylon we thought about Jerusalem, and we sat down and cried.

The LORD God of Zion will rule for ever! Shout praises to the LORD!

People of Israel, rejoice because of your Creator. People of Zion, celebrate because of your King.

I hate the worshippers of worthless idols, but I trust you, LORD.

Israel, you are a sinful nation loaded down with guilt. You are wicked and corrupt and have turned from the LORD, the holy God of Israel.

Sing, people of Zion! Celebrate the greatness of the holy LORD of Israel. God is here to help you.

From a distant land the LORD is coming fierce and furious— he brings his weapons to destroy the earth.

The LORD is our judge and our ruler; the LORD is our king and will keep us safe.

I asked Hezekiah, “Where did these men come from? What did they want?” “They came all the way from Babylonia,” Hezekiah answered.

Jerusalem, wake up! Stand up and be strong. Holy city of Zion, dress in your best clothes. Those foreigners who ruined your sacred city won't bother you again.

Idols are merely a joke, and when the time is right, they will be destroyed.

Have you rejected Judah, LORD? Do you hate Jerusalem? Why did you strike down Judah with a fatal wound? We had hoped for peace and a time of healing, but all we got was terror.

Did this disaster take you by surprise? Are you a warrior with your hands tied? You have chosen us, and your temple is here. Don't abandon us!

and I, the LORD, will speak. I was never unfair to your ancestors, but they left me and became worthless by following worthless idols.

If you listen to such lies, I will have you dragged far from your country and killed.

Some day those who guard the hill country of Ephraim will shout, “Let's go to Zion and worship the LORD our God.”

The kings and the officials, the priests and the prophets, and everyone else in Israel and Judah have turned from me and made me angry by worshipping idols. Again and again I have tried to teach my people to obey me, but they refuse to be corrected. I am going to get rid of Jerusalem, because its people have done nothing but evil.

But they are not only insulting me; they are also insulting themselves by doing these shameful things.

The people complain, “Spring and summer have come and gone, but still the LORD hasn't rescued us.”

I'll scatter them in foreign countries that they and their ancestors have never even heard of. Finally, I will send enemy soldiers to kill every last one of them.

and so the total length of the wall will be ten kilometres. The new name of the city will be “The-LORD-Is-Here!”

Then the LORD will save everyone who faithfully worships him. He has promised there will be survivors on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, and among them will be his chosen ones.

I, the LORD, live on Mount Zion. I will punish the guilty and defend the innocent.

The LORD's people who escape will go to Mount Zion, and it will be holy. Then Jacob's descendants will capture the land of those who took their land.

Jerusalem, why are you crying? Don't you have a king? Have your advisers gone? Are you suffering like a woman in childbirth?

Zion, your punishment is over. The LORD has forced your enemies to turn and retreat. Your LORD is King of Israel and stands at your side; you don't have to worry about any more troubles.

And so, he will put you in the power of your slaves, and they will raid and rob you. Then you will know that I am a prophet of the LORD All-Powerful.

Why are you doing this? We are humans just like you. Please give up all this foolishness. Turn to the living God, who made the sky, the earth, the sea, and everything in them.

and I will be so furious that I will abandon them and ignore their prayers. I will send disasters and suffering that will nearly wipe them out. Finally, they will realize that the disasters happened because I abandoned them.

This is what you must write to the angel of the church in Ephesus: I am the one who holds the seven stars in my right hand, and I walk among the seven gold lampstands. Listen to what I say.
