When I have finished with your land, there will be deathly silence in the empty ruins of Jerusalem and the towns of Judah—no happy voices, no sounds of parties or wedding celebrations.

Don't let children be created or joyful shouts be heard ever again in that night.

Fire destroyed the young men, and the young women were left with no one to marry.

Jeremiah, you say that this land is a desert without people or animals, and for now, you are right. The towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem are deserted, and people and animals are nowhere to be seen. But some day you will hear

happy voices and the sounds of parties and wedding celebrations. And when people come to my temple to offer sacrifices to thank me, you will hear them say: “We praise you, LORD All-Powerful! You are good to us, and your love never fails.” The land will once again be productive.

Farmland had become a desert, and towns were in ruins. The LORD's fierce anger had done all of this.

The LORD said: I have made my decision, and I won't change my mind. This land will be destroyed, although not completely. The sky will turn dark, and the earth will mourn.

Finally, my anger struck like a raging flood, and today Jerusalem and the towns of Judah are nothing but empty ruins.

Our leaders are not allowed to decide cases in court, and young people no longer play music.

You will have no reason to sing or play music on harps,

and violent criminals run free. None of you will survive the disaster, and everything you own and value will be shattered.

I'll stop Israel's celebrations— no more New Moon Festivals, Sabbaths, or other feasts.

I'll punish her for the days she worshipped Baal and burnt incense to him. I'll punish her for the times she forgot about me and wore jewellery and rings to attract her lovers. I, the LORD, have spoken!

After I destroy your towns and ruin your land with war, I'll scatter you among the nations.

Those nations will suffer disaster because of what they did.

Lamps will no longer shine anywhere in Babylon, and couples will never again say wedding vows there. Her merchants ruled the earth, and by her witchcraft she fooled all nations.
