But your ancestors refused to listen. They were stubborn, and whenever I wanted them to go one-way, they always went the other.

You warned them to turn back and discover true life by obeying your laws. But they stubbornly refused and continued to sin.

“My people, Israel, if only you would listen and do as I say!

The people of Judah are evil and stubborn. So instead of listening to me, they do whatever they want and even worship other gods. When I have finished with these people, they will be good for nothing, just like this pair of shorts.

These shorts were tight around your waist, and that's how tightly I held on to the kingdoms of Israel and Judah. I wanted them to be my people. I wanted to make them famous, so that other nations would praise and honour me, but they refused to obey me.

My people, you abandoned me and walked away. I am tired of showing mercy; that's why I'll destroy you

And you have done even worse! You are stubborn, and instead of obeying me, you do whatever evil comes to your mind.

You people of Judah are so deceitful that you even fool yourselves, and you can't change.

but its people start disobeying me and doing evil, then I will change my mind and not help them at all.

But I know you won't listen. You might as well answer, “We don't care what you say. We have made plans to sin, and we are going to be stubborn and do what we want!”

worship stone idols and sacred poles as if they had created you and had given you life. You have rejected me, but when you're in trouble, you cry to me for help.

When times were good, I warned you. But you ignored me, just as you have done since Israel was young.

These prophets go to people who refuse to respect me and who are stubborn and do whatever they want. The prophets tell them, “The LORD has promised everything will be fine.”

Just admit that you rebelled and worshipped foreign gods under large trees everywhere.

The whole city of Jerusalem will be my throne. All nations will come here to worship me, and they will no longer follow their stubborn, evil hearts.

But when our ancestors took over the land, they did not obey you. And now you have punished Israel with disaster.

You refused to listen to my prophets, who kept telling you, “Stop doing evil and worshipping other gods! Start obeying the LORD, and he will let you live in this land he gave your ancestors.”

The LORD said: My people, when you stood at the crossroads, I told you, “Follow the road your ancestors took, and you will find peace.” But you refused.

But you have ignored me and become even more stubborn and sinful than your ancestors ever were!

So why do you refuse to come back to me? Why do you hold so tightly to your false gods?

They were stubborn and worshipped Baal, just as their ancestors did.

But the Israelites rebelled against me in the desert. They refused to obey my laws and teachings, and they treated the Sabbath like any other day. Then in my anger, I decided to destroy the Israelites in the desert once and for all.

I said this because they had not only ignored my laws and teachings, but had disgraced my Sabbath and worshipped idols.

But the children also rebelled against me. They refused to obey my laws and teachings, and they treated the Sabbath as any other day. I became angry and decided to punish them in the desert.

You are nothing more than a stubborn cow— so stubborn that I, the LORD, cannot feed you like lambs in an open pasture.

Jerusalem, this will happen because you followed the sinful example of kings Omri and Ahab. Now I will destroy you and your property. Then the people of every nation will make fun and insult you.

But everyone who heard those prophets, stubbornly refused to obey. Instead, they turned their backs on everything my Spirit had commanded the earlier prophets to preach. So I, the LORD, became angry

You may be an Israelite and know-all about the LORD's agreement with us, but he won't bless you if you rebel against him. You may think you can get away with it, but you will cause the rest of Israel to be punished along with you.
