The foreigners answered, “We have already tried to treat Babylon's wounds, but they would not heal. Come on, let's all go home to our own countries. Nothing is left in Babylonia; everything is destroyed.”

Oded lived in Samaria and was one of the LORD's prophets. He met Israel's army on their way back from Judah and said to them: The LORD God of your ancestors let you defeat Judah's army only because he was angry with them. But you should not have been so cruel!

and prayed: I am much too ashamed to face you, LORD God. Our sins and our guilt have swept over us like a flood that reaches up to the heavens.

Everyone will run to their homelands, just as hunted deer run, and sheep scatter when they have no shepherd.

These are the fortune-tellers you have done business with all your life. But they don't know where they are going, and they can't save you.

Your soldiers stumble over each other and say, “Get up! The enemy will kill us, unless we can escape to our own land.”

The foreign soldiers you hired will turn and run. But they are doomed, like well-fed calves being led to the butcher.

There is no one in Babylonia to plant or harvest crops. Even foreigners who lived there have left for their homelands, afraid of the enemy armies.

The people complain, “Spring and summer have come and gone, but still the LORD hasn't rescued us.”

Trouble and destruction will be their reward for rejecting me. I would have rescued them, but they told me lies.

Then I heard another voice from heaven shout, “My people, you must escape from Babylon. Don't take part in her sins and share her punishment.

Her sins are piled as high as heaven. God has remembered the evil she has done.
