This temple is now magnificent. But when these things happen, everyone who walks by it will be shocked and will ask, “Why did the LORD do such a terrible thing to his people and to this temple?”

The city of Babylon is glorious and powerful, the pride of the nation. But it will be like the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah after I, the Lord, destroyed them.

Then you will make fun of the king of Babylonia by singing this song: That cruel monster is done for! He won't attack us again.

Babylon will be a pile of rubble where only jackals live. People will laugh, but they will be afraid to walk among the ruins.

People living along the coast are shocked at the news. Their rulers are horrified, and terror is written across their faces.

over all humans, animals, and birds. You are the head of gold.

Your Majesty, that tree is you. Your glorious reputation has reached heaven, and your kingdom covers the earth.

People of nearby countries will shudder when they see your terrible troubles, but they will still make fun of you.
