Jeremiah 50:4

The LORD said: People of Israel and Judah, when these things happen you will weep, and together you will return to your land and worship me, the LORD your God.

But later, Israel will turn back to the LORD their God and to David their king. At that time they will come to the LORD with fear and trembling, and he will be good to them.

Israel and Judah will unite and choose one leader. Then they will take back their land, and this will be a great day for Jezreel.

The LORD said: The time will surely come when I will make a new agreement with the people of Israel and Judah.

I, the LORD, will make the descendants of David and the people of Jerusalem feel deep sorrow and pray when they see the one they pierced with a spear. They will mourn and weep for him, as parents weep over the death of their only child or their firstborn.

The LORD said: It isn't too late. You can still return to me with all your heart. Start crying and mourning! Go without eating.

Now I will show mercy to the people of Israel and bring them back from the nations where they are living. They are Jacob's descendants, so I will bless them and show that I am holy.

I promise that the time will come when I will appoint a king from the family of David, a king who will be honest and rule with justice.

I did this because I wanted to take revenge— the time had come to rescue my people.

Turn to the LORD! He can still be found. Call out to God! He is near.

The LORD did not speak in a dark secret place or command Jacob's descendants to search for him in vain. The LORD speaks the truth, and this is what he says

The LORD will have mercy on Israel and will let them be his chosen people once again. He will bring them back to their own land, and foreigners will join them as part of Israel.

Trust the LORD and his mighty power.

Be sad and sorry and weep. Stop laughing and start crying. Be gloomy instead of glad.

Ishmael went out of the town gate to meet them. He pretended to be weeping, and he asked them to come into Mizpah to meet with Gedaliah, the ruler of Judah.

When you think about how you acted, you will be ashamed, especially when I return your sisters to you as daughters, even though this was not part of our agreement.

Let's return to the LORD. He has torn us to shreds, but he will bandage our wounds and make us well.

If my own people will humbly pray and turn back to me and stop sinning, then I will answer them from heaven. I will forgive them and make their land fertile once again.

I, the LORD, will roar like a lion, and my children will return, trembling from the west.
