In my heart I moan for Moab, like a funeral song played on a flute. I mourn for the people of the town of Kir-Heres, because their wealth is gone.

The Israelites destroyed the Moabite towns. They chopped down the good trees and stopped up the springs of water, then covered the fertile fields with rocks. Finally, the only city left standing was Kir-Hareseth, but soldiers armed with slings surrounded and attacked it.

When God is angry, money won't help you. Obeying God is the only way to be saved from death.

If you obey God, you will have something to leave your grandchildren. If you don't obey God, those who live right will get what you leave.

the rich think their money is a wall of protection.

I pity Moab! Its people are running to Zoar and to Eglath-Shelishiyah. They cry on their way up to the town of Luhith; on the road to Horonaim they tell of disasters.

The people of Moab are leaving, crossing over Willow Brook, taking everything they own and have worked for.

Deep in my heart I suffer for Moab and Kir-Heres.

Please, LORD, look down from your holy and glorious home in the heavens and see what's going on. Have you lost interest? Where is your power? Show that you care about us and have mercy!

You cheated others, but everything you gained will fly away, like birds hatched from stolen eggs. Then you will discover what fools you are.

I can't stand the pain! My heart pounds, as I twist and turn in agony. I hear the signal trumpet and the battle cry of the enemy, and I cannot be silent.

So I will cry and mourn for Moab and its town of Kir-Heres.
