You refugees from Crete, your time has now come, and I will destroy you. None of you will be left to help the cities of Tyre and Sidon.

When God showed his anger, the servants of the sea monster fell at his feet.

but the Lord laughs and knows their time is coming soon.

But what will you do when you are fiercely attacked and punished by foreigners? Where will you run for help? Where will you hide your valuables?

Cry and weep in the gates of your towns, you Philistines! Smoke blows in from the north, and every soldier is ready.

When this happens, the people who live along the coast will say, “Look what happened to them! We ran to them for safety, hoping they would protect us from the king of Assyria. But now, there is no escape for us.”

The Assyrians will be killed, but not by the swords of humans. Their young men will try to escape, but they will be captured and forced into slavery.

But the LORD All-Powerful will win this battle and take revenge on his enemies. His sword will eat them and drink their blood until it is full. They will be killed in the north near the River Euphrates, as a sacrifice to the LORD.

And now, you evil and wicked ruler of Israel, your day of final punishment is almost here.

You wicked Ammonites see false visions and believe untrue messages. But your day of punishment is coming soon, and my sword will slaughter you!

Now it's my turn to treat the Philistines as my enemies and to kill everyone living in their towns along the coast.

I will set fire to your land, and anyone who defended your nation will die. Then you will know that I am the LORD.

The time is coming when everyone will be ruined. Buying and selling will stop,

Israel, the time has come. You will get what you deserve, and you will know it. “Prophets are fools,” you say. “And God's messengers are mad.” Your terrible guilt has filled you with hatred.

Israel, I am the LORD God, and the Ethiopians are no less important to me than you are. I brought you out of Egypt, but I also brought the Philistines from Crete and the Arameans from Kir.

This time of punishment is what is written about in the Scriptures.

A group called the Avvim used to live in villages as far south as Gaza, but the Philistines killed them and settled on their land.

Phinehas and the clan leaders were pleased when they heard the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and East Manasseh explain why they had built the altar. Then Phinehas told them, “Today we know that the LORD is helping us. You have not been unfaithful to him, and this means that the LORD will not be angry with us.”
