And when Jehoiakim and his officials and military officers heard what Uriah said, they tried to arrest him, but he escaped to Egypt. So Jehoiakim sent Elnathan son of Achbor and some other men after Uriah, and they brought him back. Then Jehoiakim had Uriah killed and his body dumped in a common burial pit.

I am the LORD God All-Powerful. Jeremiah, I will tell you exactly what to say. Your words will be a fire; Israel and Judah will be the fuel.

You warned us and our leaders that Jerusalem would suffer the worst disaster in human history, and you did exactly as you had threatened.

I'll send a sword to kill them, wherever their enemies drag them off as captives. I'm determined to hurt them, not to help them.”

But my warnings and my words spoken by the prophets caught up with your ancestors. So they turned back to me and said, “LORD All-Powerful, you have punished us for our sins, just as you had planned.”

The sky and the earth won't last for ever, but my words will.
