In the past, I took care to uproot them, to tear them down, and to destroy them. But when that day comes, I will take care to plant them and help them grow.

I long for the past, when God took care of me,

You will rebuild the city of Zion. Your glory will be seen,

The LORD rebuilds Jerusalem and brings the people of Israel back home again.

God will rescue Jerusalem, and he will rebuild the towns of Judah. His people will live there on their own land,

and I am sending you with authority to speak to the nations for me. You will tell them of doom and destruction, and of rising and rebuilding again.”

“That's right,” the LORD replied, “and I always rise early to keep a promise.”

The people of Israel will return and rebuild your ruined towns and live in them.

And when you finally punished us with this horrible disaster, that was also the right thing to do, because we deserved it so much.

I'll make Israel prosper again. You will rebuild your towns and live in them. You will drink wine from your own vineyards and eat the fruit you grow.

When your ancestors made me angry, I decided to punish you with disasters, and I didn't hold back.

Now you no longer need to be afraid. I have decided to treat Jerusalem and Judah with kindness.

“I, the Lord, will return and rebuild David's fallen house. I will build it from its ruins and set it up again.

and he will bless you with many children, large herds and flocks, and abundant crops. The LORD will be happy to do good things for you, just as he did for your ancestors.
