Jacob was so frightened that he divided his people, sheep, cattle, and camels into two groups.

Our God, please save Israel from all its troubles.

The LORD's people may suffer a lot, but he will always bring them safely through.

When this happens, the people who live along the coast will say, “Look what happened to them! We ran to them for safety, hoping they would protect us from the king of Assyria. But now, there is no escape for us.”

You're our only hope; you alone can save us now. You help us one day, but you're gone the next.

worship stone idols and sacred poles as if they had created you and had given you life. You have rejected me, but when you're in trouble, you cry to me for help.

Go and cry to the gods you made! There should be enough of them to save you, because Judah has as many gods as it has towns.

Israel, you belong to me, so don't be afraid. You deserved to be punished; that's why I scattered you in distant nations. But I am with you, and some day I will destroy those nations. Then I will bring you and your descendants back to your land, where I will protect you and give you peace. Then your fears will be gone. I, the LORD, have spoken.

No passer-by even cares. Why doesn't someone notice my terrible sufferings? You were fiercely angry, LORD, and you punished me worst of all.

Zion, how can I comfort you? How great is your pain? Lovely city of Jerusalem, how can I heal your wounds, gaping as wide as the sea?

My nation was punished worse than the people of Sodom, whose city was destroyed in a flash without the help of human hands.

Michael, the chief of the angels, is the protector of your people, and he will come at a time of terrible suffering, the worst in all of history. And your people who have their names written in The Book will be protected.

You warned us and our leaders that Jerusalem would suffer the worst disaster in human history, and you did exactly as you had threatened.

Israel and Judah will unite and choose one leader. Then they will take back their land, and this will be a great day for Jezreel.

We are in for trouble! Soon the LORD All-Powerful will bring disaster.

Listen, you leaders and everyone else in the land. Has anything like this ever happened before?

The LORD God leads this army of countless troops, and they obey his commands. The day of his judgment is so terrible that no one can stand it.

The sun will turn dark, and the moon will be as red as blood before that great and terrible day when I appear.

Jerusalem, why are you crying? Don't you have a king? Have your advisers gone? Are you suffering like a woman in childbirth?

When I heard this message, I felt weak from fear, and my lips quivered. My bones seemed to melt, and I stumbled around. But I will patiently wait. Some day those vicious enemies will be struck by disaster.

And the LORD has decided when it will happen—this time of unending day.

The day of judgment is certain to come. And it will be like a red-hot furnace with flames that burn up proud and sinful people, as though they were straw. Not a branch or a root will be left. I, the LORD All-Powerful, have spoken!

This will be the worst time of suffering since God created the world, and nothing this terrible will ever happen again.

The sun will turn dark, and the moon will be as red as blood before the great and wonderful day of the Lord appears.

In this way all Israel will be saved, as the Scriptures say, “From Zion someone will come to rescue us. Then Jacob's descendants will stop being evil.

That terrible day has come! God and the Lamb will show their anger, and who can face it?”
