If you save us, it will show how great you are. Don't let our enemies disgrace your temple, your beautiful throne. Don't forget that you promised to rescue us.

And you have done even worse! You are stubborn, and instead of obeying me, you do whatever evil comes to your mind.

Our LORD, you are the one who gives me strength and protects me like a fortress when I am in trouble. People will come to you from distant nations and say, “Our ancestors worshipped false and useless gods,

Our LORD, your temple is a glorious throne that has stood on a mountain from the beginning.

But I know you won't listen. You might as well answer, “We don't care what you say. We have made plans to sin, and we are going to be stubborn and do what we want!”

I have always wanted to treat you as my children and give you the best land, the most beautiful on earth. I wanted you to call me “Father” and not turn from me.

The LORD All-Powerful, the God of Israel, said: I promise to set the people of Judah free and to lead them back to their home towns. And when I do, they will once again say, “We pray that the LORD will bless his home, the sacred hill in Jerusalem where his temple stands.”

When that happens, all nations on earth will see the good things I have done for Jerusalem, and how I have given it complete peace. The nations will celebrate and praise and honour me, but they will also tremble with fear.

Make promises only in my name, and do what you promise! Then all nations will praise me, and I will bless them.

But your ancestors refused to listen. They were stubborn, and whenever I wanted them to go one-way, they always went the other.

They were stubborn and worshipped Baal, just as their ancestors did.

I then saw what looked like a throne made of sapphire, and sitting on the throne was a figure in the shape of a human.

They know about God, but they don't honour him or even thank him. Their thoughts are useless, and their stupid minds are in the dark.

Don't let sin keep ruling your lives. You are ruled by God's kindness and not by the Law.

But our mother is the city of Jerusalem in heaven above, and she isn't a slave.

The LORD our God hasn't explained the present or the future, but he has commanded us to obey the laws he gave to us and our descendants.

But afterwards, the Israelites would become even more sinful than their ancestors had been. The Israelites were stubborn—they simply would not stop worshipping other gods or following the teachings of other religions.
