You leaders of my people are like shepherds that kill and scatter the sheep.

But I told them, “Our leaders were stupid failures, because they refused to listen to the LORD. And so we've been scattered like sheep.

My beautiful land is ruined like a field or a vineyard trampled by shepherds and stripped bare by their flocks.

If you are too proud to listen, I will weep alone. Tears will stream from my eyes when the LORD's people are taken away as prisoners.

You and your leaders are more disgraceful than thieves— you and your kings, your priests and prophets

The priests who teach my laws don't care to know me. Your leaders rebel against me; your prophets give messages from Baal and worship false gods.

Now you will be disgraced because of your sins. Your leaders will be swept away by the wind, and the nations you trusted will be captured and dragged to a foreign country.

You were supposed to take care of my people, but instead you chased them away. So now I'll really take care of you, and believe me, you will pay for your crimes!

My people, you are lost sheep abandoned by their shepherds in the mountains. You don't even remember your resting place.

I, the LORD God, say those lying prophets are doomed! They don't see visions—they make up their own messages!

You strong ones have used your powerful horns to chase off those that are weak,

They are my sheep; I am their God, and I take care of them.

The towns that now lie in ruins will be filled with people, just as Jerusalem was once filled with sheep to be offered as sacrifices during a festival. Then you will know that I am the LORD.

I, the LORD All-Powerful, am fiercely angry with you leaders, and I will punish you. I care for my people, the nation of Judah, and I will change this flock of sheep into charging war horses.

Stay away from those Pharisees! They are like blind people leading other blind people, and all of them will fall into a ditch.”

When he saw the crowds, he felt sorry for them. They were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

A thief comes only to rob, kill, and destroy. I came so that everyone would have life, and have it fully.

Hired workers are not like the shepherd. They don't own the sheep, and when they see a wolf coming, they run off and leave the sheep. Then the wolf attacks and scatters the flock.

Everyone who came before me was a thief or a robber, and the sheep did not listen to any of them.
