Nebuchadnezzar took Jehoiachin to Babylon, along with his mother, his wives, his officials, and the most important leaders of Judah.

Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he became king of Judah, and he ruled only three months from Jerusalem. His mother Nehushta was the daughter of Elnathan from Jerusalem.

Jehoiachin was a prisoner in Babylon for thirty-seven years. Then Evil-Merodach became king of Babylonia, and in the first year of his rule, on the twenty-seventh day of the twelfth month, he let Jehoiachin out of prison.

Jehoiachin was even allowed to wear his own clothes, and he ate at the king's table every day.

As long as Jehoiachin lived, he was paid a daily allowance to buy whatever he needed.

You may be powerful, but the LORD is about to snatch you up and throw you away.

The LORD said these troubles will lead to your capture, and he will throw you from this land like a stone from a sling.”

The LORD told me to tell you that your king and his mother must surrender their thrones and remove their crowns.

So I will throw you into a land that you and your ancestors know nothing about, a place where you will have to worship other gods both day and night. And I won't feel the least bit sorry for you.

King Jehoiachin and the other people who were taken from Judah to Babylonia will be allowed to come back here as well. All this will happen because I will smash the power of the king of Babylonia!

None of you will survive. You may hope to return to Judah some day, but only a very few of you will escape death and be able to go back.
