More cedar in your palace doesn't make you a better king than your father Josiah. He always did right— he gave justice to the poor and was honest. That's what it means to truly know me. So he lived a comfortable life and always had enough to eat and drink.

David ruled all Israel with fairness and justice.

I praise the LORD your God. He is pleased with you and has made you king of Israel. The LORD loves Israel, so he has given them a king who will rule fairly and honestly.

Josiah always obeyed the LORD, just as his ancestor David had done.

No other king before or after Josiah tried as hard as he did to obey the Law of Moses.

He followed the example of his ancestor David and always obeyed the LORD.

But Josiah ignored Neco's warning, even though it came from God! Instead, he disguised himself and marched into battle against Neco in the valley near Megiddo.

Everything else Josiah did while he was king, including how he faithfully obeyed the LORD,

Rulers are protected by God's mercy and loyalty, but they must be merciful for their kingdoms to last.

Doing what is right and fair pleases the LORD more than an offering.

Evil people must be removed before anyone can rule with justice.

An honest ruler makes the nation strong; a ruler who takes bribes will bring it to ruin.

Be fair and give justice to the poor and homeless.

But a nation will prosper when its ruler is mature, and its leaders don't feast too much.

The best thing we can do is to enjoy eating, drinking, and working. I believe these are God's gifts to us,

Tell those who obey God, “You're very fortunate— you will be rewarded for what you have done.”

They will live in a fortress high on a rocky cliff, where they will have food and plenty of water.

His power will never end; peace will last for ever. He will rule David's kingdom and make it grow strong. He will always rule with honesty and justice. The LORD All-Powerful will make certain that all of this is done.

Jehoiakim, no one will cry at your funeral. They won't turn to each other and ask, “Why did our great king have to die?”

Some day I will appoint an honest king from the family of David, a king who will be wise and rule with justice.

even if it isn't what we want to do. We will obey the LORD so that all will go well for us.”

I will keep you safe only if you change your ways. Be fair and honest with each other.

If you would only give what you have to the poor, everything you do would please God.

Day after day they met together in the temple. They broke bread together in different homes and shared their food happily and freely,

When you eat or drink or do anything else, always do it to honour God.

Today I am explaining his laws and teachings. And if you always obey them, you and your descendants will live long and be successful in the land the LORD is giving you.
