One generation after another has set up pagan altars and worshipped the goddess Asherah everywhere in your country— on hills and mountains, and under large trees. So I'll take everything you own, including your altars, and give it all to your enemies.

Straight away, the people of Judah stopped worshipping in the temple of the LORD God, and they started worshipping idols and the symbols of the goddess Asherah. These sinful things made the LORD God angry with the people of Judah and Jerusalem,

Hozai wrote a lot about Manasseh, including his prayer and God's answer. But Hozai also recorded the evil things Manasseh did before turning back to God, as well as a list of places where Manasseh set up idols, and where he built local shrines and places to worship Asherah.

He rebuilt the local shrines that his father Hezekiah had torn down. He built altars for the god Baal and set up sacred poles for worshipping the goddess Asherah. And he faithfully worshipped the stars in the sky.

God demanded all their love, but they made him angry by worshipping idols.

Instead, you must destroy their altars and tear down the sacred poles they use in the worship of the goddess Asherah.

You will be made ashamed of those groves of trees where you worshipped idols.

They have built altars and places for burning incense to their goddess Asherah, and they have set up sacred poles for her. But they will stop worshipping at these places.

Long ago you left me and broke all ties between us, refusing to be my servant. Now you worship other gods by having sex on hilltops or in the shade of large trees.

On hilltops, we worshipped idols and made loud noises, but it was all for nothing— only you can save us.

But the nations that live there worship other gods. So after you capture the land, you must completely destroy their places of worship—on mountains and hills or in the shade of large trees.

The Israelites sinned against the LORD by forgetting him and worshipping idols of Baal and Astarte.
