But for now, I am sending enemies who will catch you like fish and hunt you down like wild animals in the hills and the caves.

The LORD will be fearsome, marvellous, and glorious when he comes to terrify people on earth— they will hide in caves and in the hills.

They will settle everywhere—in the deep valleys and between the rocks, on every bush and all over the pasture land.

and now I will let you be attacked by nations from the north, and especially by my servant, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylonia. You and other nearby nations will be destroyed and left in ruins for ever. Everyone who sees what has happened will be shocked, but they will still make fun of you.

Enemy cavalry and archers shout their battle cry. People run for their lives and try to find safety among trees and rocks. Every town is empty.

I, the LORD All-Powerful, will send neighbouring nations to strike you with terror. You will be scattered, with no one to care for your refugees.

I will tell your enemies to leave your nation bare like a vine stripped of grapes. I, the LORD All-Powerful, have spoken.

Enemies hunted us down on every public street. Our time was up; our doom was near.

They swooped down faster than eagles from the sky. They hunted for us in the hills and set traps to catch us out in the desert.

Your sins have doubled, and you are rebellious. Now I have decided to send nations to attack and put you in chains.

I, the LORD God, have sworn by my own name that your time is coming. Not one of you will be left— you will be taken away by sharp hooks.

You will run from a lion, only to meet a bear. You will escape to your house, rest your hand on the wall, and be bitten by a snake.

No one is loyal to God; no one does right. Everyone is brutal and eager to deceive everyone else.

I'll search Jerusalem with lamps and punish those people who sit there unworried while thinking, “The LORD won't do anything, good or bad.”

Your Majesty, look at what I'm holding. You can see that it's a piece of your robe. If I could cut off a piece of your robe, I could have killed you. But I let you live, and that should prove I'm not trying to harm you or to rebel. I haven't done anything to you, and yet you keep trying to ambush and kill me.

Don't let me die in a land far away from the LORD. I'm no more important than a flea! Why should the king of Israel hunt me down as if I were a bird in the mountains?”
