David said, “I have disobeyed the LORD.” “Yes, you have!” Nathan answered. “You showed you didn't care what the LORD wanted. He has forgiven you, and you won't die. But your newborn son will.”

After David had everyone counted, he felt guilty and told the LORD, “What I did was stupid and terribly wrong. LORD, please forgive me.”

They refused to let foreigners join them, as they met to confess their sins and the sins of their ancestors.

When that happens, we tell everyone, “I sinned and did wrong, but God forgave me

So I confessed my sins and told them all to you. I said, “I'll tell the LORD each one of my sins.” Then you forgave me and took away my guilt.

Our terrible sins may demand that we be punished. But if you rescue us, LORD, everyone will see how great you are.

Just admit that you rebelled and worshipped foreign gods under large trees everywhere.

We have rebelled against you just like our ancestors, and we are ashamed of our sins.”

The people of Judah say to each other, “What are we waiting for? Let's run to a town with walls and die there. We rebelled against the LORD, and we were sentenced to die by drinking poison.

Won't you look and see how upset I am, our LORD? My stomach is in knots, and my heart is broken because I betrayed you. In the streets and at home, my people are slaughtered.

“We've sinned! We've rebelled against you, and you haven't forgiven us!

Our ancestors sinned, but they are dead, and we are left to pay for their sins.

Our Lord God, with your own mighty arm you rescued us from Egypt and made yourself famous to this very day, but we have sinned terribly.

In my vision the locusts ate every crop in the land, and I said to the LORD, “Forgive me for asking, but how can the nation survive? It's so weak.”
