My people, you love to wander away; you don't even try to stay close to me. So now I will reject you and punish you for your sins. I, the LORD, have spoken.

The woman shouted at Elijah, “What have I done to you? I thought you were God's prophet. Did you come here to cause the death of my son as a reminder that I've sinned against God?”

So why do you refuse to come back to me? Why do you hold so tightly to your false gods?

My own people Israel will never again depend on your nation. In fact, when the Israelites remember what happened to you Egyptians, they will realize how wrong they were to turn to you for help. Then the Israelites will know that I, the LORD God, did these things.

My people are determined to reject me for a god they think is stronger, but he can't help.

Israel, I won't lose my temper and destroy you again. I am the Holy God— not merely a human being, and I won't stay angry.

Trouble and destruction will be their reward for rejecting me. I would have rescued them, but they told me lies.

No one realizes that I have seen their sins surround them like a flood.

You sacrifice your best animals and eat the sacrificial meals, but I, the LORD, refuse your offerings. I will remember your sins and punish you. Then you will return to Egypt.

You are brutal and corrupt, as were the men of Gibeah. But God remembers your sin, and you will be punished.

Of all nations on earth, you are the only one I have chosen. That's why I will punish you because of your sins.

I won't accept your offerings or animal sacrifices— not even your very best.

I will treat them with kindness, even though they are wicked. I will forget their sins.”

“When the Israelites were on their way out of Egypt, the nation of Amalek attacked them. I am the LORD All-Powerful, and now I am going to make Amalek pay!
