Be shocked and stunned, you prophets! Refuse to see. Get drunk and stagger, but not from wine.

Even young people get tired, then stumble and fall.

He will make those cruel people dine on their own flesh and get drunk from drinking their own blood. Then everyone will know that the LORD is our Saviour; the powerful God of Israel has rescued his people.

You are the LORD's people, but you made him terribly angry, and he struck you with his mighty arm. Mountains shook, and dead bodies covered the streets like rubbish. The LORD is still angry, and he is ready to strike you again.

Jerusalem, wake up! Stand up! You've drunk too much from the cup filled with the LORD's anger. You have swallowed every drop, and you can't walk straight.

You are in trouble and drunk, but not from wine. So pay close attention

The LORD will come down like a whirlwind with his flaming chariots. He will be terribly furious and punish his enemies with fire.

They will go around in great pain and will become so hungry that they will angrily curse their king and their gods. And when they try to find help in heaven

And everyone who listens to them will be killed, just as they deserve. Their dead bodies will be thrown out into the streets of Jerusalem, because their families will also be dead, and no one will be left to bury them.

In the fields I see the bodies of those killed in battle. And in the towns I see crowds dying of hunger. But the prophets and priests go about their business, without understanding what has happened.”

You, LORD, have turned back my warriors and crushed my young heroes. Judah was a woman untouched, but you let her be trampled like grapes in a wine-pit.

I called out to my lovers, but they betrayed me. My priests and my leaders died while searching the city for scraps of food.

Get up and pray for help all through the night. Pour out your feelings to the Lord, as you would pour water out of a jug. Beg him to save your people, who are starving to death at every street crossing.

The LORD was so fiercely angry that he burnt the city of Zion to the ground.

These are Zion's people, worth more than purest gold; yet they are counted worthless like dishes of clay.

Young men are forced to do the work of slaves; boys must carry heavy loads of wood.

The LORD will spread out a net and trap him as he leaves Jerusalem. He will then be led away to the city of Babylon, but will never see that place, even though he will die there.

I will spread out a net to trap him. Then I will drag him to Babylon and see that he is punished for his unfaithfulness to me.

I want the birds and animals to eat until they are full and drink until they are drunk.

No matter what you try to accomplish, the LORD will confuse you, and you will feel his anger. You won't last long, and you may even meet with disaster, all because you rejected the LORD.

You will have to drink the wine that God gives to everyone who makes him angry. You will feel his mighty anger, and you will be tortured with fire and burning sulphur, while the holy angels and the Lamb look on.
