Isaiah 48:1

People of Israel, you come from Jacob's family and the tribe of Judah. You claim to worship me, the LORD God of Israel, but you are lying.

Make promises only in my name, and do what you promise! Then all nations will praise me, and I will bless them.

They come shouting, “People of Israel, praise the LORD God!”

Everyone breaks promises made in my name.”

I am God! I can be trusted. Your past troubles are gone; I no longer think of them. When you pray for someone to receive a blessing, or when you make a promise, you must do it in my name. I alone am the God who can be trusted.

Worship and obey the LORD your God with fear and trembling, and promise that you will be loyal to him.

The man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob. You have wrestled with God and with men, and you have won. That's why your name will be Israel.”

Now you will see what I will do with those people who belong to Satan's group. They claim to be Jews, but they are liars. I will make them come and kneel down at your feet. Then they will know that I love you.

I know how much you suffer and how poor you are, but you are rich. I also know the cruel things being said about you by people who claim to be Jews. But they are not really Jews. They are a group that belongs to Satan.

They will also be fooled by the false claims of liars whose consciences have lost all feeling. These liars

It cannot be said that God broke his promise. After all, not all the people of Israel are the true people of God.

Some of you call yourselves Jews. You trust in the Law and take pride in God.

God is Spirit, and those who worship God must be led by the Spirit to worship him according to the truth.

When Jesus saw Nathanael coming towards him, he said, “Here is a true descendant of our ancestor Israel. And he isn't deceitful.”

You Pharisees and teachers of the Law of Moses are in for trouble! You're nothing but show-offs. You lock people out of the kingdom of heaven. You won't go in yourselves, and you keep others from going in.

The LORD All-Powerful said: I'm now on my way to judge you. And I will quickly condemn all who practise witchcraft or cheat in marriage or tell lies in court or rob workers of their pay or ill-treat widows and orphans or steal the property of foreigners or refuse to respect me.

Not a trace will be found of those who worship stars from their rooftops, or bow down to the god Milcom, while claiming loyalty to me, the LORD.

The LORD has given his word and made this promise: “Never again will I give to your enemies the grain and grapes for which you struggled.

Day after day, you worship him and seem eager to learn his teachings. You act like a nation that wants to do right by obeying his laws. You ask him about justice, and say you enjoy worshipping the LORD.

I have made a solemn promise, one that won't be broken: everyone will bow down and worship me.

They will worship me and become my people. They will write my name on the back of their hands.

Others have ruled over us besides you, our LORD God, but we obey only you.

And don't be like a stream from which just any woman may take a drink.

Say to God, “Everything you do is fearsome, and your mighty power makes your enemies come crawling.

Because of you, our God, the king will celebrate with your faithful followers, but liars will be silent.

Everyone followed their old customs. None of them worshipped only the LORD, and they refused to obey the laws and commands that the LORD had given to the descendants of Jacob, the man he named Israel.

Israel, you will live in safety; your enemies will be gone. The dew will fall from the sky, and you will have plenty of grain and wine.

Respect the LORD your God, serve only him, and make promises in his name alone.

The LORD heard you and said: Moses, I heard what the people said to you, and I approve.

You and your descendants will prosper like an orchard beside a stream. Your king will rule with power and be a greater king than Agag the Amalekite.

Do not misuse my name by making promises you don't intend to keep. I am the LORD your God.

Make certain that you obey everything I have said. Don't pray to other gods or even mention their names.

You people are stubborn and far from being safe, so listen to me.

We are unfit to worship you; each of our good deeds is merely a filthy rag. We dry up like leaves; our sins are storm winds sweeping us away.

Keep these promises! But let me tell you what will happen. As surely as I am the LORD God, I swear that I will never again accept any promises you make in my name.

Then he told me: This scroll puts a curse on everyone in the land who steals or tells lies. The writing on one side tells about the destruction of those who steal, while the writing on the other side tells about the destruction of those who lie.

The small tribe of Benjamin leads the way, followed by the leaders from Judah. Then come the leaders from Zebulun and Naphtali.

If you want to do right and obey the LORD, follow Abraham's example. He was the rock from which you were chipped.

God chose Abraham and Sarah to be your ancestors. The LORD blessed Abraham, and from that one man came many descendants.

Descendants of Jacob, is it right for you to claim that the LORD did what he did because he was angry? Doesn't he always bless those who do right?
