While Ezra was down on his knees in front of God's temple, praying with tears in his eyes, and confessing the sins of the people of Israel, a large number of men, women, and children gathered around him and cried bitterly.

I pray that my God will remember these good things that I have done for his temple and for those who worship there.

I ordered the Levites to make themselves holy and to guard the gates on the Sabbath, so that it would be kept holy. God is truly merciful, and I pray that he will treat me with kindness and bless me for doing this.

I also arranged for the people to bring firewood to the altar each day and for them to bring the first part of their harvest to the temple. I pray that God will bless me for the good I have done.

I pray that God will bless me for everything I have done for my people.

Please help me learn to do the right thing, and I will be honest and fair in my own kingdom.

Instead of food, I have ashes to eat and tears to drink,

Let me truly respect your laws, so I won't be ashamed.

I will always look to you, as you stand beside me and protect me from fear.

I never forget your kindness, and I am always faithful to you.

You bless them by saying, “You told me your sins, without trying to hide them, and now I forgive you.”

My groaning has worn me out. At night my bed and pillow are soaked with tears.

You, LORD, heard my crying, and those hateful people had better leave me alone.

Hezekiah turned towards the wall and prayed,

At Bethel, Jacob wrestled with an angel and won; then with tears in his eyes, he asked for a blessing, and God spoke to us there.

When Jesus saw Nathanael coming towards him, he said, “Here is a true descendant of our ancestor Israel. And he isn't deceitful.”

We can be proud of our clear conscience. We have always lived honestly and sincerely, especially when we were with you. And we were guided by God's wonderful kindness instead of by the wisdom of this world.

and live in a way that pleases him. Then you will be able to go in and take this good land from your enemies, just as he promised your ancestors.

God had the power to save Jesus from death. And while Jesus was on earth, he begged God with loud crying and tears to save him. He truly worshipped God, and God listened to his prayers.

God is always fair. He will remember how you helped his people in the past and how you are still helping them. You belong to God, and he won't forget the love you have shown his people.
