Is he depending on Egypt and its king? That's the same as leaning on a broken stick, and it will go right through his hand.

Help us defeat our enemies! No one else can rescue us.

A friend you can't trust in times of trouble is like having a toothache or a sore foot.

They will be confused and frustrated, because they depended on Ethiopia and boasted about Egypt.

When this happens, the people who live along the coast will say, “Look what happened to them! We ran to them for safety, hoping they would protect us from the king of Assyria. But now, there is no escape for us.”

When Assyria let you down, you ran to Egypt, but you'll find no help there,

I, the LORD, was angry with the people of Jerusalem and punished them. And if you go to Egypt, I will be angry and punish you the same way. You will never again see your homeland. People will be horrified at what I do to you, and they will use the name of your city as a curse word.

And so, you will die in Egypt from war, hunger, and disease.

I am the LORD All-Powerful, the God of Israel. Soon I will punish the god Amon of Thebes and the other Egyptian gods, the Egyptian kings, the people of Egypt, and everyone who trusts in the Egyptian power.

When they reached out to you for support, you broke in half, cutting their arms and making them fall.

It will be taken to Assyria and given to the great king. Then Israel will be disgraced for worshipping that idol.

The Scriptures say that no one who has faith will be disappointed,

that will never disappoint us. All this happens because God has given us the Holy Spirit, who fills our hearts with his love.
