The LORD says: The women of Jerusalem are proud and strut around, winking shamelessly. They wear anklets that jingle and call attention to the way they walk.

Too much pride will destroy you.

Evil people are proud and arrogant, but sin is the only crop they produce.

Some people are stuck-up and act like snobs;

Now come and see the crown given to Solomon by his mother on his happy wedding day.

Enemies surround Jerusalem, alone like a hut in a vineyard or in a cucumber field.

The earth wilts away; its mighty leaders melt to nothing.

The mighty LORD All-Powerful is going to take away from Jerusalem and Judah everything you need— your bread and water,

But I, the LORD, will cover their heads with sores, and I will uncover their private parts.

When that day comes, I will take away from those women all the fine jewellery they wear on their ankles, heads, necks, ears, arms, noses, fingers, and on their clothes. I will remove their veils, their belts, their perfume, their magic charms, their royal robes, and all their fine dresses, hats, and purses.

He will let children and babies become your rulers.

after the LORD sends a fiery judgment to clean the city and its people of their violent deeds.

When that time comes, you won't rebel against me and be put to shame. I'll do away with those who are proud and arrogant. Never will any of them strut around on my holy mountain.

Jesus turned to the women and said: Women of Jerusalem, don't cry for me! Cry for yourselves and for your children.
